There have been a large number of shootings going on in Akron, Ohio. Many people are being rushed to the hospital or dying from gunshot wounds, as police are constantly on the look out to find the individuals responsible. Just recently one Akron man was pronounced dead after a house shooting, which happened during the early hours of February 14th.
Man shot at house party
Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a holiday to celebrate love, but love played no factor in the shooting that took place at a home located in the 500 block of North Howard Street. Police were called about a fight at the home, where a party was going on. The call came in at 2:19am, and when police arrived, they learned it was more than just a fight. Two men were shot, one in the chest and one in the foot. The man who was shot in the foot did not have any life threatening injuries, but was taken to the Akron City Hospital. However, the man who was fatally shot in the chest was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Man who was murdered identified
Officials identified the man who was murdered as 25 year old Gabriel Rios. A full autopsy was scheduled to be done by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. Several witnesses who were at the party were also able to give police details about the shooter. 31 year old Antoine Bennett got into a verbal argument with two individuals, and a large fight broke out. The Cleveland man was responsible for shooting both men, and left the scene upon police arrival.
Bennett’s criminal background
After being released from prison on September 16th, a warrant is now out for Bennett’s arrest. Previously he served a nine-month prison sentence for a similar crime. Bennett shot and wounded a man at Biggie’s Food Mart located at the 2100 block of East 55th Street in Cleveland, Ohio. His record doesn’t stop there. Back in 2011 he was sentenced to three years in prison for shooting a gun into a Cleveland home. Other previous convictions include carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon as a felon, drug possession, and breaking & entering.
Police searching for Bennett
A warrant for murder is out for the arrest of Antoine Bennett. Bennett is described as an African American male, weighing about 240 pounds, with a height of 5 feet 10 inches. He also has a beard, mustache, and medium length hair. Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards, wants people to know this man is considered armed and dangerous. Since the beginning of 2016, Akron, Ohio has seen a number of shootings and killings in the area. Some of these shootings have been gang related, while other simply stem from violence. Police in the area will have to work hard to help combat some of the violence that has been prominent in the Akron area.
